The Pacific Palisades Rebuild honors three generations of family connection to this neighborhood. Working within a modest budget, we designed a home grounded in essential values: abundant natural light as a foundation for wellbeing, energy efficiency as an ethical commitment to the future, and spaces that nurture the emotional lives of its inhabitants.

Each volume rises to a different height, choreographing how daylight moves through the home from morning to evening.

The angled forms serve a dual purpose: welcoming low winter sun into the main living areas while shading against harsh summer heat.

This geometry also generates intimate outdoor spaces that flow directly from each interior room, expanding the home's living area into the landscape.

The main living space opens directly onto two distinct outdoor areas: a morning terrace surrounded by greenery for coffee or tea, and a shaded evening courtyard designed for outdoor dining.

The smaller footprint of the house offers opportunities for a variety of outdoor spaces. The main living volume opens up on opposite sides to two outdoor dining and lounge areas. Outside of the bedrooms and master suite, there are two viewing gardens. At the rear of the house is a patio with a small exercise pool under a live oak tree.

The main living space is angled to keep the hot mid-day summer sun out while allowing for early morning and late afternoon light to fill the volume.

The winter mid-day sun enters the room and provides a source of passive heating during the cooler winter months.
